About Singapore UENs

Every business entity registered in Singapore is assigned a unique identifier called a UEN (Unique Entity Number). This serves as the official registration number for the company.

UEN Format

  • Business Format: Begins with the registration year (e.g., 2023xxxxx)
  • Local Company Format: Year + 5-6 digits + letter (e.g., 202312345A)
  • Other Entities: May include letters followed by numbers (e.g., S12AB3456C)

All UEN data is verified against official ACRA (Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority) records.

UEN Verification FAQ

What is a UEN and why is it important?

A UEN (Unique Entity Number) is a single identification number allocated to an entity in Singapore. It's important because it's used for all interactions with government agencies, business transactions, and legal documentation. Verifying a UEN confirms that a business is legitimately registered in Singapore.

How can I verify if a UEN is legitimate?

You can verify a UEN's legitimacy by using our UEN Lookup tool above, which checks against official ACRA records. A legitimate UEN will return company details including registration date and business type. Our database is updated daily with the latest information from government sources.

What do the different UEN formats mean?

Different entity types have different UEN formats:

  • Business Entities (from 2009): Starts with year of registration, e.g., 201912345A
  • Local Companies: Year of registration followed by 5-6 digits and a check letter
  • Businesses (Sole Proprietorships/Partnerships): Last 7 digits of NRIC/FIN number, business number and a check letter
  • Limited Liability Partnerships: Year of registration, "LL" followed by a 5-digit number and a check letter

When was the UEN system implemented in Singapore?

The UEN system was implemented in Singapore on January 1, 2009. Entities registered before this date were assigned UENs to replace their former identification numbers. Since then, all new businesses automatically receive a UEN upon registration with ACRA.
